The inspiration, and motivation we have available to us today in books, podcasts, social media, etc., can be great – but it can be extremely dangerous as well. We are constantly being fed different opinions, perspectives, and this can become another sound to add to the noise that prevents us from hearing the inner voice that knows us better than we know ourselves.
Too often we go to others for guidance, and help. To answer questions about OUR life and ourselves for us, as if they knew what will be best for us. But let me ask you something, who tells you when you are hungry? When you need to rest? When something about that person just “feels off”. That same intuition can also lead the way in your own life… you just have to PAY ATTENTION, and start looking inward a little more often. I’m not saying you shouldn’t seek guidance in others; because people ARE guides on our path and almost always have something to teach us about ourselves. All I’m saying is that you should look within yourself first.
“Life will teach you how to live it.” This was something I heard on a Amy Winehouse documentary the other day and it spoke to me so strongly. Because it SO dang true. If we can be present enough to tune into our inner voice, and see the signs, and lessons that are laid out on our path every day – we would honestly never have to read another book, or seek guidance for the important decisions we must make in life. Within every thought, and every situation comes a message or a lesson.
Just like with everything in life, there has to be a balance. We must learn when to let life and our inner voice lead the way, and when to seek external guidance, and help. In my opinion that balance begins by having enough awareness to hear our inner voice, and see the signs that life is always placing on our path. This is the best way to make important decisions ourselves. Then, seeking external guidance from those who may have already accomplished what we are trying to achieve, as they could point you in the right direction; having already walked the path themselves.
Be the leader in your life. Make decisions based on what YOU want. Don’t make decisions based on what others are doing, or because you want to achieve the same outcome. The more you do this, the more you will go against your truth, and purpose in life. The more you look inward and ask yourself the important questions, the more you will be able to hear the innate wisdom you hold. Make the time to sit in silence, and ask until you hear that inner voice.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to make mistakes in the decisions that you make. Instead, learn how to handle them, and find the message within them when they come, because they will. Life may not always give you what you want, but it will always give you what you need – and that is how we learn to live.
